As paddlers, we know the importance of safety around the water. That makes it incumbent upon us to spread that knowledge around. It has long been known, for instance, that anglers’ cavalier disregard for PFDs leads to many drownings in that community. Recently, attention has been drawn to the fact that a similar failure of judgement is leading to drowning being the 10th leading cause of death among children.
