Various diets, currently in fashion, are touting themselves as “detox diets”. The science is pretty clear, however: the claims are nonsense. These “miracle cure” fantasies are just another manifestation of an old phenomenon, snake oil salesmen. In fact, some of the diets have the potential to cause harm, if they encourage a dieter to forego proper nutrition. As has always been the case, the best way to be healthy and, if need be, lose weight is to moderate your intake, while consuming a balanced diet.
