Land adjacent to Thirtymile Creek, a tributary to the Wild and Scenic John Day River, was recently purchased by the Western Rivers Conservancy from local property owners. The family had held the land since homesteading it in the 1880s. In the past WRC was instrumental in creating Cottonwood Canyon State Park. Many boaters hope WRC ownership will lead to public access at Thirtymile. Currently, the landowners allow use for a fee. The landing offers a convenient half-way point on the Clarno to Cottonwood run.
