Over the years Lake Tahoe, in California, has had its fair share of environmental challenges. As development has encroached on the once-pristine lake, the toxic artifacts of human occupation have found their way into its waters. From poisons to invasive species, Tahoe has been challenged with its share of humanity’s insults. Most recently, it has been found that the tiny invertebrates that populate the lake floor are, in many cases, in steep decline.
