Crunching the numbers, researchers at Stanford have come to a remarkable conclusion: If solar power were fully implemented in California’s developed areas it could more than provide sufficient electric power to meet the entire state’s needs. Of course, such a program would have spin-off benefits to the burgeoning solar industry and the state’s employment statistics. One might expect energy companies to be less than enthusiastic, however, given the potential impacts to their lucrative business model. At any rate, (pun intended), Ars Techninca has the story: http://arstechnica.com/science/2015/03/developed-areas-in-calif-could-support-enough-solar-to-power-the-state/
