Molalla, Chetco Rivers Joining State’s Wild and Scenic

11th Annual Illuminata Regatta December 19 
Salem’s ever-popular Illuminata Regatta, where light-adorned craft, mostly canoes and kayaks, ply the slough in a glimmering procession, below Riverfront Park. The boats are set to launch by 5:30 from the park’s floating dock. If you’d like to get involved I’m told you can find the event on Facebook as “Illuminata Regatta” and as “11th Annual Winter Solstice Illuminata Regatta”.

Kon-Tiki2 Sets Out 
Thor Heyerdahl’s epic adventure building and sailing the original Kon-Tiki is the stuff of legend. His exploits have inspired many imitators, including a new one that will now attempt a round trip from Peru to Easter Island, and back. Life and Death Orca/Humpback Whale Battle 
The BBC has a dramatic clip that shows orcas trying to predate on a humpback calf. In the gripping sequence, the adult humpbacks cooperate to fend off the orcas. Orca Capture Trade Moves to Russia, China
